What to expect

Information for Immigration Medical Examinations for Canada

This is the information you need if you are applying for a visa for Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Please bring the following to your medical examination:
  • An ID document - bring ONE of the following:
    - Original passport (preferable)
    - Clear scanned & attested copy
    - Original National ID - Birth certificate for children who are non-visa applicants
  • Contact Details:
    - Bangladesh phone number
    - Bangladesh home address
    - E-mail address
  • Medical history: list of current medications, recent blood tests and x-rays, hospital notes, discharge summaries, doctors’ letters or prescriptions
  • Prescription glasses/contact lenses (avoid coloured contact lenses)
  • If you already applied for a visa: bring the medical request document from IRCC (IMM 1017).
Applicants who have not completed a visa application and present for an Upfront Medical:

We will give you an Information Sheet. You must submit this to IRCC for your visa application.

Applicants who have completed a visa application and present for a Medical:

IRCC will send you this document (IMM 1017). You must bring this for the medical. This is NOT an upfront medical.

Please note:
  • Permanent Residence (PR) applicants are required to wait for a medical request. IRCC will provide the IMM 1017 medical request document. Upfront Medicals are not advised.
  • Express Entry applicants must complete an Upfront Medical. Mercury Medical will provide an Information Sheet to submit with the application.
  • Please note Mercury Medical staff are not authorised to provide advice pertaining to suitability of the medical for various visa categories. Applicants are encouraged to check IRCC's website for the most up to date information.
  • All completed medicals are submitted directly to IRCC via the eMedical system.
Additional Information
  • No fasting required. Eat & drink normally and take all medications as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Applicants under 16 years of age are required to present with a family member or guardian.
  • Applicants who are aged under 18 years old, or have an intellectual or physical disability, will be allowed to present with a guardian. All other applicants are not allowed an accompanying family member or friend.
  • Regarding X-rays:
    -All applicants above 11 years old are required to undergo a chest X-ray.
    -Pregnant applicants are encouraged to seek advice from their obstetrician. A panel physician at Mercury Medical will discuss available options on the day of your examination.
