Before your medical examination

Here are some common questions we receive from clients before their medical examination:

The immigration medical examination process usually takes 1-2 hours. Family files with multiple applicants may take longer.

The comfort of our female clients is very important to us. As such, there are qualified female staff members at every step of the medical process including reception, administration, nursing, laboratory testing (blood tests) and x-ray. A female doctor is also available – please request this at the time of the appointment.

Chaperones are also always available and can be requested at any time.

In some cases, the immigration department may require additional testing which will incur an additional fee. Please note that all testing is conducted in accordance with strict protocols set by the immigration authorities.
We accept payment via cash and card (except American Express). All clients will receive an individual, itemised receipt.

The requirements for each country are listed on their respective pages. You must review them. At the very least we require:

  • original passport
  • local phone number
  • valid e-mail address
  • medical history & medication names

Certain countries require more information, please review the country-specific page on our website.

To make the process more comfortable, please consider the following:

  • Wear easy to change clothing with minimal pins
  • A blood test is usually required, ensure sleeves are not tight and can be rolled up past the elbow
  • Do not wear jewellery. Necklaces will need to be removed for the x-ray
  • Applicants with long hair must bring a clip or band to tie their hair up
  • Avoid coloured contact lenses

No preparation is necessary. We understand that medical examinations can feel stressful, but don’t worry, we have a friendly, professional environment and our staff will be more than happy to explain each step of the process. The physician will also review you in a private room. All discussions are private and confidential. A chaperone is also available.

No, you are not allowed a friend or relative if you are above 18 years old. Applicants who require assistance (e.g. a physical or intellectual disability) are allowed one accompanying guardian. Applicants 18 years and under are allowed one guardian only. Applicants aged under 16 will require a guardian to also sign the consent forms on their behalf.

You do not need to fast. Please eat and drink as normal, and take all your regular medication as prescribed.

We recommend bringing a small toy or a book to occupy young children while they are in the waiting area. Please note we only allow one adult guardian to accompany the child inside during the medical.

Menstruating applicants are advised to wait until they have completed menstruation before attending an immigration medical.

A urine sample may be required. You can bring a bottle of water with you or filtered water is also available on site.

We are not authorised by the immigration departments to comment on the impact of medical conditions on visa approval. Visa suitability is determined by the immigration departments only – panel physicians are not involved in this process. We are also not aware of the visa outcomes of our clients.

No, we are not allowed to transfer results from a previous examination to a new examination, even for the same country.

In some cases, Australian visa applicants are able to contact their visa officer to reuse previous medical examination results for a different Australian visa application. For these cases, applicants must contact the visa officer directly before undergoing a new examination and await confirmation.

After your medical examination

Here are some common questions we receive from clients after their medical examination:

We submit all medical reports within the timeframe stipulated by the immigration departments. These reports are then reviewed by the immigration team. Your account is updated after the immigration team has processed your medical. We are unable to comment on current processing times.

Once a medical examination has been submitted, further queries must be directed to the immigration authorities.

If we have found something that requires further investigation or tests, we will contact you. If the immigration team requires further information, they will email you or update your application account with instructions. Please contact us if instructed to do so by the immigration authorities.

If you have received an e-mail from the department requesting you to contact us, this usually means they require additional information. Please call us and give us your HAP/IME/UMI/NZER ID (this can be found on your money receipt) and we will guide you further.

We are not authorised to comment on whether another medical is necessary. Previous reports cannot be used to fulfill a new medical request. For these cases, applicants are advised to contact the immigration department directly as soon as possible and await further instructions.

The information provided above is accurate at the time of writing. Applicants are also advised to check respective immigration department websites for up to date information.
